the conch by e.b. white
A childhood favorite, author E. B. White, penned classics like "Charlotte's Web" and "Stuart Little". While reading recently, I stumbled across an E. B. White poem, The Conch, that is stunningly beautiful.
The Conch
Hold a baby to your ear
As you would a shell:
Sounds of centuries you hear
New centuries foretell.
Who can break a baby's code?
And which is the older --
The listener or his small load?
The held or the holder?

something magical & sweet
I came across this image on Pinterest a few weeks back and think there's something magical and so sweet about it.

lights!
As Hindus across the world start celebrating Diwali, or the festival of lights, I thought we at Inside the Pomegranate could enjoy some photos of illuminated beauties. I hope these brighten up your day...

golden hues {color therapy}
Golden hues that range from warm yellow to amber are some of my favorite colors. From honey and lemons to lanterns and leaves, these shades bring the feel of sunshine.

flowerful friday
We're at that point in autumn when all of the brilliantly colored leaves have fallen and even the late blooming flowers are past their peak. So, for today's Flowerful Friday post, we will have to take inspiration from compositions that conjure up fall. These photos are images with colors that create a warmth, like a cozy fire, that we all enjoy this time of year.

a vivid dream {the ocean}
Last night, I had one of those wonderfully vivid dreams that trick your sleep filled mind into believing the dream-state settings are real. In my life-like dream I was enjoying the warm salt water of the ocean. Swimming, floating, diving, and just taking it all in - oh, what a wonderful dream that was!

election day 2012
Here's what's on my mind tonight as the election results come in here in the US. I'm so grateful to live in a country where I have the right to vote. I'm grateful to those who came before me to give women the right to vote. Remember, the 19th Amendment granting women the right to vote was ratified in 1920. This fundamental right has existed less than 100 years in our nation! I ask, when will equality of all fundamental rights be achieved?

bright punches of color for a dreary day
The combination of a dreary fall day and not feeling well created in me the need for some punches of color to brighten things up. These images do just that for me, as their colors are like instant pick-me-ups. These cheery tones are some of my favorite hues.

flowerful friday
Thank goodness for mums! Though the rest of my garden has faded away, my mums are still going strong lending bright pops of color to the yard. I love to bring cuttings indoors to make bouquets for us to enjoy inside. Here's a close-up of a few of the autumnal colored mums from my garden.

november afternoon {john atkinson grimshaw}
Victorian-era painter, John Atkinson Grimshaw's painting, November Afternoon, Stapleton Park seems to perfectly capture the mood and feel of November. There is a stillness, the sun is lower in the sky, and the colors haven't yet committed to full-on winter hues.
The British painter Grimshaw, is best known for painting landscapes with extraordinary realistic effect - seen in lighting, coloring, and details.

happy halloween!
I love the cute side of Halloween - kiddos dressed up in their costumes - but admittedly the scary and ghoulish side just isn't for me.
Wishing you all a happy, safe, and fun Halloween!

music for a monday morning: peter, paul, and mary's "if i had a hammer"
Peter, Paul and Mary's songs are not the songs of my generation; however, they are the songs of my childhood as my parents would play their records, and I remember how much I loved this trio back then. And, I still do. This recording of "If I Had a Hammer", to me, exemplifies timeless music. What a beautiful message. Plus, how can you not want to sing along?

from the garden {fall bulb planting}
Today was the day I decided to finally get out in my garden to do the necessary fall clean-up. I cut back what needed to be cut back, cleaned up some overgrown areas, and then dug so many holes for spring bulbs. Fall garden clean-up, to be honest, isn't my favorite. It makes me feel a bit sad to think of how quickly the warm weather months once again flew by. However, there is so much to be said about planting bulbs in the fall for springtime delight. I planted an enormous amount of tulips, a more sane amount of daffodils and grape hyacinths, and a few globe allium since a little of those go a long way. Unlike buying annuals at the garden nursery, there is no instant gratification with bulbs. But the end result, after a usually long winter, is so worth it. Come springtime, seeing the little tips of green peak out from the earth makes this gardener's heart fill with happiness.

my favorite things {tea}
Without a doubt, I am a huge lover of tea. Camellia Sinensis, the binomial name for tea, is the most widely consumed beverage world-wide. To me, there is nothing quite like a really good cup of tea. Whether its malty Assam, floral Darjeeling, highly fragrant Jasmine Green, or the wide-ranging tastes of Oolong, I love them all.

flowerful friday
As a thoughtful get-well gift, I received these beautiful roses with a lovely fragrance from my in-laws. Aren't they gorgeous? It's been so grey around here lately, that their bright and cheery colors have been most welcome.
Happy Friday!

our feline friends, part 2 {black and white}
Of course kiddos aren't the only ones who have feline friends. Here's our part 2 in the "Our Feline Friends" series - a little selection of fun black and white photos of some older cat lovers.
Steve Martin and one fat cat! |
Hemingway - the ultimate cat lover |
the Dalai Lama and one beautiful feline sentient being |
I love this photo for the pure humanity it captures, and the cat's expression is priceless... maybe something like, "Squeeze nice, but so tight!" |
