weekend exploring: Milwaukee

Winter weather arrived here in Milwaukee this weekend. We spent Saturday morning at the Milwaukee Public Museum and Sunday morning at Milwaukee's Discovery World. Both spots are fantastic destinations for an inquisitive three year old (and his parents!). We had friends visiting from Madison on Sunday, and their older daughter is Lucas's age. The two of them are buddies. It was a fun weekend taking in some indoor sights here in Milwaukee.

back in the saddle

While I was away so much has happened. The big news is that my husband and I welcomed the birth of our son Lucas. He's amazing and fills our days and nights with so much joy.

Lucas and I have been lucky enough to spend a few days at my parents' house during the last couple of weeks. I happen to think their house is most happily situated on one of the prettiest pieces of woodland. During our visits, I've able to take my road bike out for a few rides while Grammie and Poppop watch Lucas. When I was pregnant, I greatly missed riding my bike, so these rides are nothing short of bliss!

I love this time of year when you can feel both the warmth of summer and the imminent approach of fall. I snapped a few photos while on a ride to help capture these lovely days.

uncovering an old family photograph - priceless!

What a lovely surprise it is to see an old family photograph for the first time. Recently my mom's cousin shared with her a photograph taken when they were both children growing up in Bangkok. The photograph captures the moment in time now long gone, but provides us with a glimpse back in time. I love being able to see my mom and uncle as little kids and my grandparents when they were in their prime. How it makes me wish I could just jump into that moment!
Isn't this a lovely scene?

She's adorable!!

91 years young

My great aunt passed away this morning in Paris. She split her time between her native Paris and her husband's native Bangkok. She was 91. Aunty Suzanne was from another era - when impeccable manners were the norm - of which she exemplified.  She had been a widow for decades and was so in love with her husband (my grandfather's cousin and my mom's godfather) that when she would tell us stories of when they were young her cheeks would go all rosy. It was lovely to see. Her kindness will always be an inspiration to me. She gave me access to the stories of a generation in my family now gone, and I am so fortunate to have been able to know dear Aunty Suzanne. It gives me so much happiness to know that she and her beloved husband are now reunited.
