inspired by vonnegut

One of my favorite authors is Kurt Vonnegut, and I know I'm not alone in that sentiment. His perennial classics always can teach us and give us a new perspective on life. I came across this quote, which I find to be beautiful.

inspired by listening

Don't you find that when you really slow down and listen to what your body is telling you, you know what the right thing to do is?

inspired by george bernard shaw

I'm going to mix things up for the next week or so, and every day I'll post a quote or words I find particularly poignant and true. Hopefully you'll find one or two that resonate with you too.

flowerful friday

This is the hottest and sunniest summer in Wisconsin that I can remember. With a long stretch of days in the 100s it's as if we've been picked up and dropped down somewhere much further south. Sunflowers seem to embody everything that is this summer - their sturdy golden petals are like intense rays of sunshine.
I hope you are staying cool. Happy Friday!

morning glory - leaves and vines

Ever since I was a kid when my mom grew morning glory outside our living room window, they've always been one of my summertime favorites. I remember laying on the sofa gazing sleepily at the mass of green leaves and pale blue flowers.

This year I started some morning glory from seed, and they are beginning to take off. Even before their flowers bloom - with the combination of their heart shaped leaves with their determined yet delicate vines - they offer so much visual interest to a garden.

the 4th of july

Wishing you a very happy 4th of July, America's Independence Day! Let's celebrate and remember that everyone, regardless of which country they call home, should call freedom a right they know personally and as a people.  Let freedom ring!

dreaming of tuscany, part 3

It's the time of year when our television gets unusually high use, because it's Tour de France time. Last night while taking in the race I spotted red poppies along the road, like what I had enjoyed seeing in Tuscany recently. And just like that memories of Tuscany came flooding happily in my mind's eye.
