a love of music: never to young, nor too old {part 1}

Music is one of those things in life that you're never too young nor too old to enjoy. Regardless of what one's preferences in music are, the important thing is to find the music that moves you, that inspires you. I love these photos and how they capture their subjects immersed in the sounds of music.

music for a monday morning: mumford and son's "i will wait"

I thought we'd kick off this week with a little Mumford and Sons to get us moving. Here, they perform their tune, "I Will Wait". I love to see musicians loving what they do - Mumford and Sons certainly don't disappoint. Enjoy!

flowerful friday

Recently, I snapped this coral colored begonia in my mom's garden. Despite the cooler temperatures, especially at night, the begonias are still going strong. Their lovely blooms add bright bursts of color to the fall scenery.
Happy Friday!

art: poplars in autumn, pink effect {monet}

Here's Monet's beautiful "Poplars in Autumn, Pink Effect". Doesn't Monet capture the colors and light of a sunny fall day perfectly? And, it's as if we can see the leaves move in the wind.

art: a breton landscape, david's mill {gauguin}

Painted in 1894 by the French master Paul Gauguin, this scene of bucolic Brittany perfectly captures the colors of autumn. Don't you just love the vibrant hues? It's an oil on canvas and resides at the Musee d'Orsay in Paris.

the beauty of the season {autumn}

Today was a gorgeous fall day - a bright blue sky contrasted with the leaves that are starting to show their lovely autumnal colors. Here are some photos that perfectly showcase the beauty of the season.

to autumn {john keats}

                                            1.
    SEASON of mists and mellow fruitfulness,
        Close bosom-friend of the maturing sun;
    Conspiring with him how to load and bless
        With fruit the vines that round the thatch-eves run;
    To bend with apples the moss’d cottage-trees,
        And fill all fruit with ripeness to the core;
            To swell the gourd, and plump the hazel shells
    With a sweet kernel; to set budding more,
        And still more, later flowers for the bees,
        Until they think warm days will never cease,
            For Summer has o’er-brimm’d their clammy cells.

                                            2.
    Who hath not seen thee oft amid thy store?
        Sometimes whoever seeks abroad may find
    Thee sitting careless on a granary floor,
        Thy hair soft-lifted by the winnowing wind;
    Or on a half-reap’d furrow sound asleep,
        Drows’d with the fume of poppies, while thy hook
            Spares the next swath and all its twined flowers:
    And sometimes like a gleaner thou dost keep
        Steady thy laden head across a brook;
        Or by a cyder-press, with patient look,
            Thou watchest the last oozings hours by hours.

                                            3.
    Where are the songs of Spring? Ay, where are they?
        Think not of them, thou hast thy music too,—
    While barred clouds bloom the soft-dying day,
        And touch the stubble plains with rosy hue;
    Then in a wailful choir the small gnats mourn
        Among the river sallows, borne aloft
            Or sinking as the light wind lives or dies;
    And full-grown lambs loud bleat from hilly bourn;
        Hedge-crickets sing; and now with treble soft
        The red-breast whistles from a garden-croft;
           And gathering swallows twitter in the skies.

flowerful friday

At the local farmers' market last Saturday, dahlias, sunflowers, and gladiolas were in gorgeous, full bloom. I picked up some beautiful dahlias for home (at a great price nonetheless!), and I snapped these colorful images. I'm looking forward to tomorrow's farmers' market to see what delightful early-fall flora might be available.
